The New Orleans Police Department is investigating a fatal early morning crash that claimed the life of one man. Authorities responded to a call at approximately 5:20 a.m. regarding a car crash on I-610 Westbound at the St. Bernard Avenue exit.
Upon arrival, officers discovered a man with injuries from the crash, who was later pronounced dead at the scene. NOPD determined that the victim was driving south on St. Bernard Avenue when the vehicle veered off course, jumping the center elevated median, and collided head-on with a train trestle support beam.
No other vehicles were involved, and the victim was the sole occupant of the car. The investigators are working to determine the cause of the collision. It is not yet known if alcohol or drugs played a role in the collision. There are no other details available at this time.
