The Texas Department of Public Safety reported a motor vehicle accident in Sabine County on Sunday evening. The accident occurred on FM 201, just north of the Jasper County Line, at around 7:25 p.m.
According to the officials, a single vehicle was involved in the collision. A 2005 Chevrolet SUV was headed west on the highway when the driver failed to stop at the stop sign. It then travelled across U.S. 96 and into a wooded area, where it crashed into a tree.
The driver and two passengers were injured and were taken to a hospital for treatment. One passenger was fatally injured and was pronounced dead at the scene. The deceased victim was identified as 54-year-old Richard Dominey.
The cause of the fatal crash is still being investigated by the authorities. It is not yet known if alcohol or drugs played a role in the collision.
