The Arizona Department of Public Safety had previously reported a motor vehicle accident that happened in Scottsdale. The accident had occurred along Loop 101 on Labor Day just before 3 a.m.
According to the officials, a motorcycle and two vehicles were involved in a collision. A Jeep Patriot had sideswiped a motorcycle. This knocked the motorcyclist off his bike. The motorcycle was then hit by a second vehicle, a Hyundai Elantra.
The motorcyclist was fatally injured and was pronounced dead at the scene. The officials have since identified the victim as 56-year-old Sammy Eugene Shepherd.
The cause of the fatal crash is still being investigated at this time. It is not yet known if alcohol or drugs played a role in the collision. There are no other details available at this time.
