The Washington State Patrol reported a motor vehicle crash in Port Orchard on Sunday evening.

At around 7:00 p.m., Erik D. Vaubel was traveling on Highway 16 in the west. He reportedly lost control of the 1994 Kawasaki motorcycle he was riding while traveling at a high speed around the Tremont Street exit. A guardrail was struck after the motorcycle collided with a jersey barrier on the side of the road and then slid down it.

Vaubel was transported by helicopter to Seattle’s Harborview Medical Center. The 52-year-old resident of Belfair perished in the accident.

The Washington State Department of Transportation reported that the highway was closed for several hours and that traffic was rerouted to Tremont.

The WSP report states that no other vehicles were involved in the fatal collision.
