According to the Califonia Highway Patrol, a multi-vehicle crash was reported in Rancho Cordova.
The officials stated that a car crashed off the freeway and struck several trees before resting again on a vacant building in the 10900 block of Sun Center Drive.
First responders declared a 39-year-old Roseville man dead at the scene.
Another 47-year-old victim from the crash was taken to the hospital with major injuries, reported the officials.
The investigation report stated that the vehicle was traveling at a very high rate of speed.
CPH also suspects that drugs or alcohol were the factors involved in the fatal crash.
The Metro Fire of Sacramento reported that a dog was also found dead at the scene.
The identities of the victims were not provided by the California Highway Patrol.
