Authorities identified 27-year-old Nathanial Perkins as the man who lost his life after debris flew through the windshield of his vehicle during a crash late Saturday night in Nashville.
As per the initial information, the fatal traffic incident took place at mile marker 58 on Interstate 840. According to the authorities, a 1994 Ford Mustang was heading eastbound when the transmission dropped from under the vehicle.
The debris from the transmission parts reportedly ricocheted when it hit the roadway following which it went airborne and made contact with three different vehicles. The other three vehicles involved were going westbound on I-840 when they were hit by the transmission parts.
The reports showed that when the parts struck the front bumper of an Infinity Q70, it caused the hood to come off, slam into the windshield and deploy the airbags. The parts then made contact with a Toyota Corolla, piercing the vehicle’s front left tire.
Both the Infiniti and Toyota managed to a stop on the right shoulder. The debris then went through a Nissan Rogue, hitting 27-year-old Nathanial Perkins, of Smyrna. Charges were pending against the 1994 Ford Mustang’s driver. No other details are available.
The incident remains under investigation.
