Child killed after a vehicle fell into a Lake in Mason County (Mason County, WA)

On Monday night, a child died after a vehicle fell into Lake Cushman in Mason County.

As per the initial information, officers actively responded to the area referred as “Party Rock” on State Route 119 at approximately 7:10 p.m. after getting reports of a single-vehicle crash. According to the eyewitnesses, a vehicle went over an embankment and wound up in the lake. Two adults initially surfaced, while the child was still inside the vehicle.

One of those adults and a bystander entered the water again to save the child. The child was rescued and airlifted to Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital in Tacoma, but later succumbed to their injuries. The male driver was detained on suspicion of vehicular homicide. No other details are immediately available.

The crash remains under investigation.
