One person was killed after a rear-end collision early Friday morning in North Austin.
As per the initial information, the fatal two-vehicle accident was first reported at 2:57 a.m. at 14700 N IH 35 Northbound – across the street from Howard Lane. The early reports showed that the driver of the red car slammed into the back of a semi-truck and got trapped inside.
On arrival, first responders found the driver unconscious. By 3:26 a.m., the patient was extricated from the vehicle and rushed to St. David’s Round Rock Medical Center with CPR in progress, but did not survive. Traffic was being rerouted at exits 247 and 246 at Pflugerville and Howard Lane, respectively.
All northbound lanes of I-35 at Well Branch Parkway were blocked for several hours while crews worked at the scene, but reopened just before 9 a.m. Authorities also reported that a car traveling through traffic struck a police cruiser parked at the scene, but no one was hurt. No further details are available.
The collision remains under investigation.
