Authorities identified 25-year-old Mariah Beltran, of San Bernardino, as the woman who lost her life and 22-year-old Carlos Rivas, of Los Angeles, as the victim who suffered injuries following a two-vehicle accident on the Santa Monica (10) Freeway in the Covina area of Los Angeles County.
The fatal car crash took place on Saturday at 1:23 a.m. According to the investigation reports, a 2006 Saturn Vue was going on the westbound freeway east of Holt Avenue. For unknown reasons, the Saturn’s driver, 22-year-old Carlos Rivas, failed to maintain control of the car and crashed into a 2018 Honda Accord, driven by a 47-year-old Los Angeles woman.
Due to the impact of the collision, the Saturn rolled over. Mariah Beltran was a passenger in the Saturn. On arrival, emergency crews rushed both Rivas and Beltran to Pomona Valley Hospital, where Beltran died from major internal injuries whereas Rivas was provided medical aid for moderate injuries.
On the other hand, the driver of the Accord incurred only minimal injuries and was not taken to a hospital. Alcohol was not suspected to be involved in the crash, officials mentioned. No other details are immediately available.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
