Two people hospitalized after a car slammed into a tree in Costa Mesa (Costa Mesa, CA)

Two people receive injuries after a car slammed into a tree Wednesday morning in Costa Mesa.

As per the initial information, the single-car crash took place after 12:30 a.m. in the 600 block of West Baker Street and Newport Boulevard. Emergency crews actively responded to the scene and, on arrival, found a BMW in pieces and surrounding a tree. The two occupants, including a male and a female were pinned inside the vehicle. Crews used the Jaws of Life to extricate them from the car.

The extrication process was complex due to the extensive damage to the vehicle. Crews had to methodically and carefully remove the twisted metal that surrounded and trapped the victims in the vehicle. The victims were then rushed to a local trauma center with unspecified injuries. No arrests have been made. Authorities believe that drugs and alcohol were not involved in the wreck. No other information is available.

The crash remains under investigation.
