Officials identified 70-year-old Anatalio Gallegos, of Monahans, as the man who lost his life following a multi-vehicle wreck in Ward County.
The fatal three-vehicle pile-up took place on SH 18. According to the investigation reports, Anatalio Gallegos, 70, was driving his truck north on State Highway 18 when he navigated a curve at an unsafe speed and entered the southbound lanes. At the same time, a 49-year-old man from Monahans who was riding on a motorcycle and a 64-year-old man from Brownfield driving a truck were in the southbound lanes.
The motorcycle driver took evasive action and laid down the motorcycle. Gallegos continued traveling northbound in the southbound lanes and collided with the other truck. He suffered major injuries and was declared dead at the scene by the officials. It is unclear if he was buckled up at the time of the collision.
Paramedics transported the motorcyclist to Medical Center Hospital in Odessa, while the driver of the second truck was rushed to Ward County Hospital in Monahans. Both the victims are listed in stable condition. No other details are made available.
The crash remains under review.
