Officials identified 47-year-old Kathleen Varboncoeur who was killed in a crash (Spring Lake Township, MI)

Authorities identified 47-year-old Kathleen Varboncoeur, from Muskegon, as the woman who lost her life following a rear-end collision on March 22 in Spring Lake Township.

The fatal two-vehicle crash took place at about 4:36 p.m. on US-31 in Spring Lake Township. According to the investigation reports, a Grand Haven Area Public School District bus was traveling southbound on US-31 when it slowed for a traffic backup. At that time, Varboncoeur was driving behind the bus when she failed to slow down in time and rear-ended the bus.

The woman died of her injuries after the crash. The driver of the school bus remained unharmed in the accident and there were no children on the bus at the time of the collision. Drugs and alcohol are not believed to be involved. No further details were provided.

An investigation is continuing.
