On Thursday, two men lost their lives following a traffic accident in Oakland while officers arrested 37-year-old Ramon Sanchez.
As per the initial information, the fatal two-vehicle crash took place shortly before 9 p.m. on Rudsdale Street. The preliminary investigation indicated that Ramon Sanchez attempted to escape a traffic stop when his vehicle slammed into a car carrying three innocent people in the 1300 block of 76th Avenue.
Two men, the driver and passenger in a car not connected to the traffic stop were declared dead at the scene by the officials. A back seat female passenger in the car was transported to the hospital in stable condition. Officials did not state why they were stopping Sanchez. Sanchez drove away in his car southbound, just as the car carrying the three people was heading east on Rudsdale Street.
After the accident, Sanchez attempted to run away, but he was arrested soon after by officers. Jail records showed Sanchez was booked on suspicion of hit-and-run, assault and evading arrest. No other details have been provided by the officials.
The crash remains under review.
