1 person dead after a wrong-way accident in Tempe (Tempe, AZ)

One person was killed following a wrong-way collision on Interstate 10.

As per the initial information, the fatal two-vehicle crash took place on US60 near Baseline Road. The early reports showed that a vehicle was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of traffic when it slammed into a commercial truck. The wrong-way driver suffered major injuries and was declared dead at the scene by the officials.

Officials shut down the westbound lanes of both I-10 and US60 near Baseline Road as crews worked at the scene. The closure will impact the rush hour traffic. Officials said that they are trying to get US60 open within the hour, but they have not provided any estimated time of reopening for I-10.

The identity of the deceased will be revealed once the next of kin is notified. The current condition of the other driver is unknown at this time. It is unclear if impairment played a factor in the accident. No other details are made available.

The incident remains under investigation.
