On Tuesday, two people suffered injuries following a traffic accident in Lacey while officers arrested 22-year-old man on suspicion of DUI.

The two-vehicle crash took place at around 2:30 a.m. on southbound I-5, near Lacey. The preliminary investigation revealed that a Subaru Impreza was traveling south on Interstate 5 at an estimated speed of 100 miles per hour. At some point of time, the vehicle crashed into a southbound truck, a “bobtail”, from behind.

Due to the impact, the truck was pushed up a 50-foot embankment where it later flipped onto its side. There were two occupants in the truck at that time. A 32-year-old Brier, Washington man had leg and shoulder injuries, whereas a 31-year-old Shoreline man emerged with a cut to his forehead. Both were transported to Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia.

After the crash, the man and his female passenger got out of the Subaru that became disabled due to the collision. They initially walked towards the truck, then walked south on the freeway to Exit 111. Officers later located the man and woman in the area of Marvin Road Northeast and Hogum Bay Road Northeast. Both reportedly smelled of alcohol. They were brought back to the crash site where the man was identified as the driver of the Subaru. No other details are available.

An investigation is ongoing.
