Officials identified 1-year-old Josiah Gonzales, 3-year-old Jeremiah Gonzales and 4-year-old Jerome Gonzales as the children who lost their lives following a single-vehicle accident on Feb. 17 near Holland.
The fatal car crash took place at about 11:20 a.m. on James Street between 112th and 120th Avenues, near Holland. According to the investigation reports, a westbound SUV struck a curb, flipped over and landed in a pond that was approximately three to four feet deep.
Three boys, Josiah Gonzales, Jeremiah Gonzales and Jerome Gonzales, were pinned inside the car when officers arrived. Crews managed to extricate the children and they were rushed to the hospital where they later succumbed to their injuries.
The driver and mother of the children, was able to come out of the vehicle on her own. She incurred only minimal injuries. Officials believe that alcohol was not involved in the accident. According to the authorities, there is a possibility that narcotics or medication contributed to the crash and toxicology results are pending. No other details are available.
An investigation continues.
