On Sunday morning, a van smashed into the wall of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Kenner.
As per the initial information, the single-vehicle crash took place before 8:30 a.m. at 1908 Short Street, Kenner, in Rivertown. The early reports showed that a maroon van slammed into the south side of the church and was halfway inside the building when it came to a rest.
The driver of the vehicle said that he recently had work done to his vehicle for sudden acceleration issues. After starting his vehicle and shifting gears, his vehicle accelerated forward smashing into the church. The vehicle reportedly hit the choir section of the church.
The driver, who is a member of the church, incurred minor injuries and a church choir member inside the church twisted an ankle. The choir had reportedly just walked away from the area before the crash happened. The driver has not been cited, officials said. No further details were provided.
