Authorities confirmed on Wednesday that a 31-year-old man died of injuries he suffered after being hit by a vehicle Friday night while crossing an East Oakland Street.
The fatal hit-and-run crash took place at approximately 8 p.m. in the 6100 block of Bancroft Avenue. According to the investigation reports, the man was walking northbound on Bancroft and was in midblock outside a crosswalk when he got hit by a black, four-door hatchback vehicle that was traveling eastbound on Bancroft.
The man sustained serious injuries to his head and was rushed to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries on Monday. The vehicle that struck the pedestrian and its driver are still being sought by the officers. Officers are working to find out the exact make of the vehicle and get a description of the driver.
The vehicle was last seen heading northbound on 62nd Avenue. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash. The identity of the deceased has not been disclosed. According to the authorities, he lived in the area where the crash occurred.
