On Sunday, a man lost his life following a motorcycle crash on the city’s South Side.

As per the initial information, the fatal hit-and-run accident took place at about 2:08 a.m. in the 5800 block of IH-35 southbound access road and Southcross Boulevard. The preliminary investigation indicated that a 30-year-old man was driving a Suzuki motorcycle west on Southcross.

Just then, a Honda Accord traveling south on the IH-35 access road ran a red light, causing the motorcyclist to collide with the driver’s side of the Honda. The force of the collision ejected the man from the Suzuki and he sustained serious injuries. On arrival, emergency personnel rushed him to the Brooke Army Medical Center where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The driver of the Honda ran away from the scene on foot. According to the officials, a family searching for the motorcyclist came upon the crash and notified his next of kin. Reports further added that the driver of the Honda will face a charge of failure to stop and render aid- death once they are found. No further details were provided.

The incident remains under active review.
