Officials identified 67-year-old Joe Miller, 61-year-old Mary Miller and 38-year-old Tiffany Scroggins as the three victims who lost their lives following a wreck Friday afternoon on State Highway 19 about five miles north of Palestine.

As per the initial information, the emergency crews responded to the area at SH 19 after getting reports of a three-vehicle accident at around 2 p.m. Friday. The preliminary reports showed that Cora Sterling, of Montalba, was driving a 2008 Dodge Caravan south on SH 19, and a 2014 Ford F-150 driven by Tiffany Scroggins, of Montalba, was traveling behind the Dodge.

At that point of time, Joe Miller, 67, of Pearland, was driving a 2021 Subaru Outback north on SH 19. For undetermined reasons, the Ford went to pass the Dodge and collided with the Subaru head-on in the northbound lane. Joe Miller and his passenger Mary Miller, 61, of Pearland were rushed to Palestine Regional Hospital, where they were declared dead.

Scroggins died after she was taken to the same hospital. Sterling and her passenger Barbara Rentie, 72, of Montalba, were also shifted to Palestine Regional Hospital. They were discharged after they were treated for non-incapacitating injuries. No other details are available.

An investigation is ongoing.
