On Monday, 43-year-old Roberto Marmolejo, from Dixon, lost his life while 44-year-old Sylvia Lopez-Martinez, of Fairfield, suffered injuries following a two-vehicle accident on Interstate 80.

As per the initial information, the fatal car crash took place at around 5 a.m. west of Alamo Drive. The early reports indicated that Marmolejo was driving a Toyota Sienna on the freeway in an unknown lane when he changed lanes to the left at once.

His vehicle crashed into the right rear of the trailer pulled by a Freightliner driven by 44-year-old Rigoberto Cerna, of Fairfield. The car went off the freeway and rolled over several times. Marmolejo and Lopez-Martinez were ejected from their vehicle due to the impact.

On arrival, medics transported Marmolejo to Kaiser Permanente Vacaville Medical Center, where he was later declared dead. Lopez-Martinez was also transported to the same hospital with major injuries. Cerna remained unharmed in the accident. It is unclear if distracted driving, drugs, and/or alcohol contributed to the collision. No other details are available.

An investigation is ongoing.
