Bay Area news anchor Frank Somerville was taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence after he was involved in a traffic collision Thursday night in downtown Oakland.

As per the initial information, the two-vehicle accident took place just after 7:45 p.m., near the intersection of Grand Avenue and Broadway. Witnesses informed officers that Somerville’s vehicle rear-ended another vehicle. After the initial crash, the other driver stepped out of their vehicle, and Somerville proceeded through the intersection, sending the other vehicle into a pole on the southeast corner of the intersection.

The reports revealed that Somerville’s Porsche struck another vehicle from behind and pushed it off the street. The reports also determined that Somerville was driving under the influence at the time of the accident. Somerville was transported to an area hospital for treatment and later taken to Santa Rita Jail and booked on DUI charges. The other driver remained unharmed in the collision.

An investigation is ongoing.
