Manubhai Patel and Vinodchandra Patel, both 67, died after being struck by a vehicle on Abercorn Street (Savannah, GA)

On Monday, authorities identified 67-year-old Manubhai Patel and 67-year-old Vinodchandra Patel, both from Savannah, as the two victims who were killed after getting hit by a vehicle Sunday evening in Savannah.

As per the initial information, the fatal auto-pedestrian accident took place at 5:20 p.m. on Abercorn Street at Janet Drive. The preliminary investigation showed that a black Jeep struck two pedestrians who were in the road and then drove away from the scene. Both pedestrians succumbed to their injuries.

According to the officials, the driver continued traveling south, stopped at a CVS pharmacy, where he called 911 to report the crash. An officer contacted the driver and conducted a DUI interview. All lanes of Abercorn Street between Lee Boulevard and DeRenne Avenue were closed as crews worked at the scene. The road has since reopened. Officers allowed traffic to exit at Twelve Oaks. Charges are pending the outcome of the investigation.
