Authorities identified 6-year-old Emory Conway as the young girl who was killed after getting struck by a vehicle near West Fort Lowell and First roads on Saturday, Dec. 4.
Officers actively responded to the intersection of West Fort Lowell Road and North Geronimo Avenue on reports of an auto-pedestrian accident. On arrival, they found the 6-year-old in the roadway. Despite life-saving measures, she was declared dead at the hospital shortly after arriving.
The preliminary investigation showed that Conway was attempting to cross north to south on Fort Lowell Road. Conway and a family member made it to the multi-purpose center lane. For an unknown reason, Conway then ran into the eastbound lanes where she was hit by a vehicle.
The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the officials. Authorities confirmed that that the driver was not impaired. No citations or charges have been issued at this time. The reason for Conway running into the roadway is still under review.
An investigation is ongoing.
