A four-year-old boy lost his life while two people were seriously injured after a single-vehicle accident in West Phoenix.

As per the initial information, Phoenix police responded to the area near 67th Avenue and Highland, south of Camelback Road at around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday on reports of a car crash. The preliminary reports showed that a Chevy Corvette was heading southbound on 67th Avenue when it veered off the roadway and slammed into a tree.

The car got heavily damaged as a result of the collision. Emergency crews utilized tools to extricate the people inside from the wreckage. A man who was driving and a woman passenger received serious, but non-fatal injuries.

A four-year-old boy, who was not buckled up and sitting on the woman’s lap during the crash, received major injuries and was rushed to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Authorities believe that speed played a part in the crash. No other details are available.

An investigation is ongoing.
