On Sunday, one person suffered injuries following a multi-vehicle wreck in Holland.

The three-vehicle pile-up took place at about 12:55 p.m. The preliminary investigation revealed that a Honda CRV was traveling northbound on US-31, when the driver, a 26-year-old woman from West Olive, traveled through the median into southbound traffic. Just then, a southbound tractor-trailer collided head-on with her car. A motorhome that was heading southbound also got involved in the accident.

The female driver of the CRV was trapped in her car following the wreck. Olive Fire and Rescue freed the woman from the vehicle and she was airlifted by Aeromed to Spectrum Hospital with major injuries. The drivers of the other vehicles remained uninjured. All southbound lanes of US-31 were shut down between Port Sheldon and Van Buren during the cleanup for more than three hours, while the northbound traffic was reduced to one lane. All lanes were back open at approximately 4 p.m.

An investigation is ongoing.
