On Tuesday afternoon, two people were hospitalized following a multi-vehicle pile-up in Baraga County’s Spurr Township.
As per the initial information, Troopers actively responded to the northbound lane of US-41 just north of Berry Road at around 1:15 p.m. Oct. 12, on reports of a 4-vehicle wreck. The MSP states that this area is at the beginning of a current construction zone.
The preliminary investigation showed that the driver of a tan GMC Envoy got distracted and could not see the vehicles stopped for the construction. Just then, the GMC struck a black Chevy Cruze from behind, sending it into a blue Buick Verano. The Buick was then pushed into a mid-size truck, which escaped from the scene before the arrival of troopers.
The driver and passenger of the Chevy Cruze were taken to Baraga County Memorial Hospital in L’Anse via Bay Ambulance for treatment of multiple non-life-threatening injuries. The reports further revealed all occupants were wearing their seatbelts and alcohol was not involved in the collision.
It is not known if any citations were issued. Baraga County Sherriff’s Office and Covington Township Fire Department provided assistance to the MSP. Bacco Construction assisted with traffic control and roadway cleanup whereas Dynamite Towing and Anttila’s Towing dragged the vehicles from the scene.
The wreck remains under investigation.
