Authorities identified 29-year-old Daniel F McReynolds, of Kelso, and 34-year-old Lucy Smith, of La Push, as the victims who were left in a hospital following a motorcycle crash on State Highway 110 on Friday night.

As of early Saturday afternoon, the La Push woman was in surgery and the Kelso man remained in the emergency room awaiting a hospital bed at Harborview Medical Center. According to a spokesperson for the Seattle hospital, Both Daniel F McReynolds, 29, and Lucy Smith, 34, were listed in stable condition.

The investigation reports showed that McReynolds was driving a 2003 Harley-Davidson Fltri westbound on State Highway 110 at around 8:28 p.m. Friday when, for unknown reasons, he failed to negotiate a curve to the left.

The motorcycle then veered off the roadway to the right. He and his passenger, Smith, were thrown from the motorbike due to the impact of the crash. On arrival, emergency responders airlifted both of them to Harborview. Both were reportedly wearing helmets at the time of the accident.

Drugs or alcohol played a part in the crash and charges were pending against McReynolds. The hospital spokesperson mentioned at around 1:15 p.m. Saturday that McReynolds remained in the emergency room awaiting a bed while Smith was in the operating room with, at that moment, no bed available for her.

An investigation continues.
