Officials identified 33-year-old Christopher Holmes, of Albany, as the man who lost his life after a three-vehicle wreck that happened on early Sept. 10 in Ascension Parish.

As per the initial information, the multi-vehicle accident took place just after 4 a.m. at milepost 175, close to one of the two Gonzales exits. The preliminary reports showed that the incident happened as a 2007 Nissan Altima was going eastbound on Interstate 10. At that moment, a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado was heading eastbound on Interstate 10 in front of the Nissan.

For unknown reasons, the Nissan hit the Chevrolet from behind. After hitting the Chevrolet, the Nissan came to rest in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 10. The Nissan was then struck by Holmes, who was going eastbound on Interstate 10 in a 2005 Ford Expedition. After colliding with the Nissan, the Expedition entered the median and rolled over.

Holmes was reportedly not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident and suffered major injuries. He was declared dead at the scene by the officials. The driver of the Chevrolet, who was also not wearing a seatbelt, did not receive any injuries. Toxicology samples were obtained from Holmes and the driver of the Chevrolet for analysis as part of the ongoing investigation. Police mentioned that the driver of the Nissan left the crash scene. Troopers are now seeking public’s assistance in finding the driver of the Nissan.

The wreck remains under active review.
