On Tuesday evening, a 25-year-old Olympia man was flown to a Seattle hospital after a motorcycle crash on State Route 3 in Mason County.
As per the initial information, the incident took place at 5:17 p.m. near East Mason Benson Road. The preliminary reports showed that the Olympia man was riding a black Yamaha motorcycle when he tried to pass a semi-truck in a no passing zone.
Then, the motorcycle crashed into a Kia Spectra that was making a left turn on Mason Benson Road. The Olympia man’s motorcycle came to a stop 20 feet away from the site of the collision in a ditch due to the impact. The Olympia man, who was reportedly wearing a helmet, was taken to Harborview Medical Center.
The 31-year-old Shelton woman driving the Kia remained unharmed in the collision. Troopers blamed the Olympia man, stating that his unsafe passing and high rate of speed caused the crash. Drugs or alcohol are considered to have played a part in the accident. Charges are pending.
An investigation is continuing.
