On Thursday morning, a bicyclist suffered major injuries after being struck by an SUV on West College Street just under the Thompson Lane overpass.

The incident took place at about 10:23 a.m. As per the reports, both vehicles were heading towards Smyrna on West College Street in the area of the Stones River Battlefield and New Vision Baptist Church. According to the officials, the driver of the Cadillac SUV was cited for failure to exercise due care.

Murfreesboro Fire Rescue and Rutherford County Emergency Medical Services provided medical aid to the bicyclist at the scene before taking him to the hospital. The identity of the injured victim has not been released at this time.

An investigation is underway.
