Authorities identified 53-year-old Christopher Batten, a Murrayville resident, who was killed following a head-on collision in Lumpkin County on early Thursday evening.
The investigation reports showed that an 18-year-old Dawson Hedden of Clarkesville who was traveling in a Jeep Wrangler crossed the centerline while negotiating a curve. Just then, the Wrangler collided head-on with a Toyota Tacoma that was also negotiating the curve.
Due to the impact, the Wrangler rotated counterclockwise and came to a stop in the eastbound lane of Castleberry Bridge Road while the Tacoma rotated counterclockwise and went off the north shoulder, hitting a traffic sign and then a group of trees before finally coming to rest, facing south.
The crash claimed the life of 53-year-old Christopher Batten of Murrayville. Hedden incurred minimal injuries from the crash. Charges are pending and the Georgia State Patrol Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team (SCRT) is assisting with the investigation.
