On Saturday, 36-year-old Derrick Gilcrease, of Nashville, lost his life following a high-speed crash in South Nashville.
As per the initial information, the fatal two-vehicle accident took place at 7:30 p.m. on Bell Road near Smith Springs Road. The preliminary investigation showed that Gilcrease was going at a high rate of speed when his vehicle crashed into a pickup truck after traveling into oncoming traffic. Gilcrease was ejected from the vehicle due to the impact.
He suffered major injuries and was declared dead at the scene by the officials. He was not buckled up at the time of the collision. The driver of the pickup incurred only minor injuries. According to the officials, the initial cause of the crash seems to be reckless driving by Gilcrease. Drugs and alcohol are not believed to be involved in the accident. No further information has been released.
An investigation is continuing.
