One person was killed and five others received major injuries following a traffic collision Tuesday near Delhi.
As per the initial information, the authorities actively responded to the area of North Vincent Road and West Harding Road at 8:24 a.m. after getting reports of a car crash. The preliminary reports showed that an Infiniti SUV driven by a woman was heading southbound on North Vincent Road with a teenage passenger.
For undetermined reasons, her vehicle veered off the road shoulder. The driver seemed to have over-corrected, causing the vehicle to travel into the northbound lane where it crashed into a Chevrolet Cruze head-on. The Chevrolet caught fire due to the impact. The fire was put out by the emergency responders.
The adult male driver of the Chevrolet was declared dead at the scene. Three teenage passengers in the Chevrolet, as well as the driver and passenger in the Infiniti, all sustained major injuries in the collision and were airlifted to area hospitals for treatment.
Drugs and alcohol were not believed to be involved in the collision. North Vincent road was shut down between West Harding Road and Linwood Road while crews worked at the scene. The closure was expected to last for about an hour. No other details are available.
The collision remains under investigation.
