SiriusXM is rolling out SiriusXM Play, a new lower-cost, ad-supported subscription plan for “less than $7 a month.” The tier will be available in nearly 100 million vehicles by the end of 2025.
SiriusXM has announced the launch of SiriusXM Play, the audio entertainment company’s first low-cost, ad-supported subscription tier. For the low monthly price of “less than $7,” SiriusXM Play offers new listeners access to over 130 channels with “limited ads” in-car and on the app.
Available now on a limited basis, SiriusXM Play will continue rolling out in the coming months. Further details and package pricing will be announced later in the year.
“SiriusXM Play presents us with an incredible opportunity to thoughtfully scale our audio service on the road and off to even more listeners across North America,” said Wayne Thorsen, SiriusXM’s Chief Operating Officer.
“With Play, we can reach and engage with new, more price-sensitive listeners with a low-cost, ad-supported subscription with more than 130 channels available in-car and so much more in-app, and leverage our strengths across both content and technology as the premium audio leader in-car to deliver this compelling offering to consumers and advertisers alike.”
Aimed at customers who want to listen to SiriusXM in their car, the Play plan will be at least $3 a month cheaper than its current offerings. Existing in-car subscription plans start at $9.99 a month for a music-only tier, while the All Access plan costs $24.98 a month. An app-only version of All Access is available for $9.99 a month.
For marketers, SiriusXM expands on the company’s existing talk programming ad inventory to include the “previously untapped opportunity” to reach listeners through its music channels. At launch, the service will feature about half the ad load of traditional AM/FM radio.
According to SiriusXM, its platform reaches 160 million listeners each month across satellite broadcast, streaming, and the SiriusXM Podcast Network. In the next year, the company plans to launch additional “advanced capabilities” like enhanced ad targeting, dynamic ad insertion, “creative channel takeover packages,” and measurement tools across SiriusXM’s ad inventory.
