Two children died and four other people were injured in a two-vehicle crash on US 61 about three miles north of Matthews, according to a preliminary report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred at approximately 9:10 p.m. on September 25, 2026, when a 2019 Lincoln Nautilus and a 2000 Ford F150, both traveling southbound, were involved in a collision, the Patrol said. Troop E responded to the scene.
According to the Patrol's preliminary findings, two juvenile occupants suffered fatal injuries in the crash. Two other juvenile occupants sustained serious injuries and were transported for medical treatment. A 33-year-old woman from Hayti, Missouri, who was driving one of the vehicles, sustained serious injuries, while a 62-year-old woman also from Hayti sustained moderate injuries.
