On Wednesday night, a woman lost her life after being hit by a vehicle on Highway 74.
As per the initial information, the fatal auto-pedestrian crash took place at about 9:20 p.m. on Highway 74 at Trumble Road. The preliminary investigation showed that a Sedan was going at an unknown rate of speed when the driver, Chris Kornacki from New York noticed the female pedestrian trying to cross the highway outside a marked crosswalk.
Kornacki tried to veer the vehicle to avoid striking the woman, but failed to do so. Kornacki stayed at the scene after the collision and called 9-1-1 for help. The woman suffered major injuries and was declared dead at the scene by the officials. Officers questioned and released Chris Kornacki after the crash. Impairment is not believed to be involved in the accident. No other details were provided.
An investigation is ongoing.
