Woman dead after an auto-pedestrian accident in Houston (Houston, TX)

On Wednesday morning, a woman was killed after being hit by a vehicle in Houston. The incident led to massive backups on the Gulf Freeway.

As per the initial information, the fatal auto-pedestrian accident took place a little after 5 a.m. on the Gulf Freeway inbound at Telephone Road. A person at a nearby McDonald’s called 911 about an unruly person at the restaurant.

When authorities went by and tried to approach the woman, the woman began running along a fence line. Deputies later saw her walking across the feeder. The woman made it across the southbound lanes then attempted to cross the northbound inbound lanes when she was struck by a vehicle.

The woman died as a result of the accident. She is believed to be in her 50s. The driver involved remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigators. The Telephone Road exit was closed and traffic was down to only one lane due to the accident. By around 7 a.m., the scene had been cleared. No other details are immediately available.

The incident remains under investigation.
