On early Wednesday morning, a woman in her 20s lost her life following a two-vehicle accident in Redford Township.
As per the initial information, the fatal car crash took place in the eastbound lanes of I-96 near Beech Daly. The preliminary investigation revealed that a car broke down on I-96 and got rear-ended by an SUV. The driver of the SUV said that they failed to see the stopped car until it was too late. On arrival, medics transported the driver of the SUV and a man who was in the stalled car, to the hospital with unspecified injuries. A woman in the car that got hit died of her injuries after the collision.
According to the officials, the car that was struck had serious damage to its rear end, with the back tires pushed all the way up to the back of the front seat. The SUV rolled over onto its roof and the Sedan was trapped to the right retaining wall. The identities of the victims have not been released at this time. The eastbound lanes were shut down for approximately five hours as crews worked at the scene, but have been reopened since 7 a.m. No other details are immediately available.
An investigation into the crash is underway.
