On early Monday morning, a driver smashed into a Tacoma police patrol vehicle at an intersection in the city’s West End neighborhood.
As per the initial information, the two-vehicle crash took place at approximately 3:32 a.m. at the intersection of North Pearl Street and Westgate Boulevard. The preliminary investigation showed that a 32-year-old man driving a Jeep Cherokee was going south on Pearl Street when he disregarded a red light at Westgate Boulevard and crashed into a police patrol vehicle.
The police vehicle was eastbound on Westgate Boulevard when it drove through the intersection at a green light and got hit. The Jeep Cherokee slammed into the front passenger side of the police vehicle, a Ford Explorer. The Jeep ended up against the exterior wall of a business in the 1900 block of North Pearl Street.
No one suffered injuries as a result of the crash, but both vehicles were damaged and dragged from the scene. There was no indication that the man driving the Jeep was impaired by drugs or alcohol at the time of the collision. No other details are immediately available.
The crash remains under investigation.
