On Thursday, a rollover crash involving a truck with a fake license plate claimed the lives of two people and left another in a hospital on Interstate 10 westbound near Mescal.
As per the initial information, a state trooper tried to pull over a pickup truck with a fake license plate at 7:21 a.m. close to milepost 299, but the truck continued driving and the trooper let it go “due to the low-risk nature of the violation.”
The early reports showed that the driver got off the interstate at the milepost 297 off-ramp leading to J6 Ranch Road and Mescal Road, but failed to maintain control of the truck. The truck then flipped over into the emergency lane of I-10′s westbound lanes, adjacent to the ramp.
Two of the three people in the truck were declared deceased at the scene by the officials. The third person was airlifted to a hospital in Tucson via a helicopter with unknown injuries. ADOT reported the crash before 9 a.m. and at least one lane was blocked until after 11:30 a.m. No other details are available.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
