A pedestrian walking along the side of the 91 Freeway in Bellflower led to a wreck Friday afternoon involving a semi-truck.
As per the initial information, the multi-vehicle accident took place along the westbound lanes of SR-91. The authorities detailed how a pedestrian was waving vehicle debris at passing cars, as he walked towards Bellflower along the westbound lanes of SR-91. According to the eyewitnesses, the big rig had to veer around the suspect to avoid striking him, causing it to hit at least one vehicle.
Authorities identified the pedestrian as a White male wearing a black t-shirt with jeans, a black backpack and carrying a skateboard. He was not struck during the crash. It was not immediately known if authorities contacted the pedestrian.
The incident led to minor injuries, but it is unknown how many victims in total were involved. Crews on scene managed to straighten out the big rig and open at least one lane for traffic. Traffic was backed up for dozens of miles following the accident.
At some point during the crash, the big rig’s gasoline tank was punctured, causing a large spillage of diesel fuel. The area was closed down during the cleanup. Just before 6:45 p.m., CalTrans officials announced that all lanes of the westbound 91 were reopened for traffic. No other details are available.
The incident remains under review.
