On early Monday morning, one person was killed and two others were hurt after a rear-end crash on Interstate 80 that the California Highway Patrol said happened in foggy conditions.
As per the initial information, the fatal car accident took place at around 12:05 a.m. on westbound Interstate 80, just east of the Pinole Valley exit in Pinole. Four other people involved in the accident all survived; two were injured.
The preliminary reports showed that a Hyundai Genesis slammed into the back of a Saturn sedan, which was occupied by three people. A passenger in the Saturn died of their injuries at the scene. The identity of the deceased has not been released as yet.
The driver of the Saturn and a passenger in the front seat incurred minor injuries. The two people in the Hyundai did not have any significant physical injuries. No arrests have been made yet. No other information available.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
