One person was taken to the hospital after a chain-reaction accident Saturday morning on I-10.
As per the initial information, the three-vehicle pile-up took place just before 2:15 a.m. on the Northwest Side near the Wurzbach exit of I-10. Initially, a pickup truck struck a motorcycle on the main lanes of I-10. Due to the impact, the rider was ejected from his bike, and he slid onto the shoulder of the road. The biker was transported to University Hospital in stable condition. The pickup truck driver remained unharmed in the accident.
The preliminary reports showed that the initial crash left the motorcycle in the middle of the highway. That is when an 18-wheeler ran over the bike, dragging it down the highway. The big rig had burst into flames due to the crash.
The rig was hauling some type of food and was totaled. Fortunately, the driver was not hurt in the accident. A hazmat team was requested to the scene to clean up diesel fuel leaking onto the road. I-10 was closed down for several hours while crews worked to clear the scene. No other details are available.
The wreck remains under active review.
