One person dead following an auto-pedestrian collision on 610 West Loop near Hempstead (Houston, TX)

On Friday evening, one person died after being hit by a vehicle while walking on the 610 West Loop freeway.

As per the initial information, the fatal auto-pedestrian collision took place on the freeway near Hempstead Road at about 5:21 p.m. The early reports indicated that the driver of the vehicle that reportedly struck the pedestrian stayed at the scene.

At this time, it is unknown why the person was walking on the highway. Officials asked motorists to avoid the area due to traffic delays. The identity of the deceased will be released once the next of kin is notified. No other details are available.

The incident remains under review.
