A crash at the intersection of Highway Y and Highway N, about four miles south of Bell City in Stoddard County, left one person dead and eight others injured, according to a preliminary report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
The collision occurred at approximately 3:30 p.m. on August 1, 2026, and involved a 2022 Ford Escape traveling westbound and a 2004 Toyota Camry traveling northbound, the Patrol said.
A 53-year-old woman from Benton, Missouri, sustained fatal injuries in the crash and was transported for medical treatment, according to the Patrol's report. The 61-year-old male driver from Benton suffered serious injuries and was also taken for treatment.
Several others involved sustained moderate injuries and were transported to area hospitals, per the report. Those included a 47-year-old female driver from Advance, Missouri; a 40-year-old female passenger also from Advance; a 60-year-old woman from Brownwood; and four juvenile occupants.
In total, nine people were involved in the crash, with one fatality and eight injuries reported, the Missouri State Highway Patrol said.
The crash remains under investigation by the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Troop E. Further details, including the identities of those involved and the specific circumstances leading to the collision, have not yet been released.
