Officials identified 74-year-old Joseph Calavano who died after a motorcycle accident (Jenner, CA)

Authorities identified 74-year-old Joseph Calavano, of San Rafael, as the man who lost his life following a motorcycle accident on Highway 1 in Sonoma County over the weekend.

As per the initial information, the fatal incident took place at about 11:30 a.m. Saturday on northbound Highway 1, close to Wright Hill Road, south of Jenner. The investigation reports showed that Calavano was riding on his bike when he lost control of the motorcycle on a curve for unknown reasons. He was reportedly ejected from the vehicle due to the crash.

On arrival, emergency crews airlifted him to a hospital in Santa Rosa, where he succumbed to his injuries. The reports further revealed that Calavano was among hundreds of motorcyclists taking part in the Rip City Riders’ Chilly Billy Fun Run, which began in Cotati and was to end at the fairgrounds in Petaluma. No other details are available.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
