Officials identified 67-year-old Kimberly Monica Rokpeter who died after a car crash on I-5 in Tacoma (Tacoma, WA)

Authorities identified 67-year-old Kimberly Monica Rokpeter, of Lakewood, as the woman who lost her life following a two-vehicle accident Thursday on I-5 in Tacoma.

The fatal car crash took place at around 2:20 a.m. on southbound Interstate 5 near Portland Avenue. According to the investigation reports, a jeep Wrangler rear-ended a Lexus Sedan while both vehicles were going south. Rokpeter was a backseat passenger of the Lexus. She suffered major injuries and was declared dead at the scene by the officials.

Kimberly Monica Rokpeter died of multiple blunt force injuries. The driver and a front seat passenger were taken to an area hospital for evaluation. The damaged Lexus pulled over in the middle of the road when it was struck, while the Jeep’s driver drove away from the scene.

Officers found the vehicle abandoned approximately a mile and a half south of the scene. Police located the driver, a 25-year-old woman, who was believed to be impaired at the time of the collision. She was booked into Pierce County Jail on suspicion of vehicular homicide. Formal charges are pending at this time. No other details are made available.

The crash remains under review.
