Officials identified 61-year-old Michael Lally who died after being hit by a car (Grattan Township, MI)

Authorities identified 61-year-old Michael Lally as the man who lost his life after getting struck by a car while he was walking his dog northeast of Grand Rapids on Tuesday night.

As per the initial information, the fatal auto-pedestrian crash took place at about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday on 5 Mile Road NE, close to the intersection of Parnell Road in Grattan Township. The investigation reports showed that the man was walking with his dog and attempted to cross 5 Mile Road when he was hit by an eastbound vehicle.

The victim, identified as 61-year-old Michael Lally, of Grattan Township, was rushed to the hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. The dog remained unharmed in the accident. Officials believe that speed and alcohol were not involved in the crash. No citations were issued.

An investigation continues.
