Authorities identified 53-year-old Chris Dufrene, Jr. who was killed after a two-vehicle collision on Friday in Jefferson Parish.
As per the initial information, on September 10, 2021 at about 11 p.m., Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop B actively responded to the area of LA 3134 (Leo Kerner Boulevard) near LA 45 (Barataria Boulevard) in Marrero, LA on reports of a crash. On arrival, they found 53-year-old Chris Dufrene, Jr. of Lafitte, La dead.
The preliminary investigation indicated that Dufrene was driving a 2009 Chevrolet Malibu while heading south on LA 3134 when the car rear-ended a 2017 Kia Forte at a high rate of speed. After the first crash, the Malibu swerved left, hit a tree in the median, became partially airborne and rotated before it finally came to a stop in the median.
Dufrene, who was reportedly not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision, sustained major injuries and was declared deceased at the scene by the officials. The driver of the Kia incurred minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Impairment on the part of Dufrene is believed to be a factor in the crash; routine toxicology samples were taken and will be sent for analysis.
An investigation is ongoing at this time.
